Clark exited the house slowly, not knowing what was to await him outside. But, to his surprise, everything looked normal. The cows were eating out in the pasture, as they were before the strobe of light hit, and the corn stocks looked like they hadn't been moved at all. Walking over to his truck, Clark was cautious, making sure that nothing was going to jump out at him. Jonathan and Martha followed right behind their son, noticing that everything was as it was before.
"Jonathan, this is weird." Mrs. Kent spoke lightly. "What happened to us?"
"Martha, I don't have any idea, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it has everything to do with the babies that Clark is carrying." He responded.
Clark started his truck, noticing that there were no problems with it. He turned off the ignition and stepped out of the cab, just as his cell phone rang. He pulled the flip phone from his pocket and answered it frantically: "Hello! Hello!"
"Clark? Clark, is that you?" The familiar voice on the other end questioned.
"Lana... are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I must've knocked my forehead on the side of the front counter, when I fainted. How are things with you?"
"My parents & I are fine."
"Clark, what happened to us?"
"I have no idea..."
"Have you heard from Lex?"
"No, have you?"
"No, Jason tried to call him, but his service kept saying that he was out of the office."
"God, where can he be? I hope he's alright."
"Don't worry yourself, Clark; it's not good for you and the babies."
That's when it hit him: Lana knew he was pregnant, but how? He never told her or anyone for that matter.
"Lana..." He started to say.
"Clark, I have to go and help Jason find Chloe & Pete. I'll call you later alright." She responded.
"Alright, Lana..."
Just as he closed his phone, he felt a deep twinge in his side. He had never felt such a pain before; it practically knocked him down. He gripped the truck, letting the ache ride itself out, before walking over to his parents. As soon as he reached his mother, the sensation hit again.
"Clark...sweetheart, are you alright?" Martha questioned, taking her son's hand.
"Yeah, I'm just getting this pain...in my side." Clark responded. "And, then, it moves to my belly button."
"Where at on your side are you being hurt?"
"Right here, Mom..."
Clark placed his mother's hand on the side of his stomach. Suddenly, she felt something hit her hand, making her smile sweetly at her son.
"Oh, sweetie...the babies are kicking. This is amazing. Your father should feel this." She stated to him.
"Mom, I can't time these things. They just happen, when they happen." He answered, just as his cell began to ring again.
He looked at his closed mobile phone to see that the caller i.d. read: "Lex - P.H.", standing for Lex's penthouse. Frenziedly, he opened it as he walked into the house, stating, "Hello! Lex? Hello?"
"Clark, thank god. Honey, are you alright? How are the babies? How are your parents?" The tall gent inquired, concerned for his family's lives.
"Babe, we're all fine; everyone's fine. How are you doing?"
"I'm good, all except for the bleeding bump on my forehead. What happened to us?"
"I don't know, but my dad has a suspicion that it had something to do with the twins."
"That explains so much."
"What do you mean?"
"I called the office after I woke up from the fall to see if everyone was alright, and my secretary asked me if I had called home yet. She thought that I'd be more worried about you, because you were pregnant with our children."
"Yeah, so...that does sound normal, sweetie."
"Yes, that would be normal, honey, if I would've told anyone that you were pregnant. I haven't told anyone that we're expecting."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the phone line as Lex flipped through his pile of newspapers and found the Metropolis Gazette. Turning around to the front page of the paper, he sat in shock for a second, before stating, "And now, I think everyone in Kansas knows."
"What do you mean 'everyone in Kansas knows'?" Clark questioned.
"Look at the Metropolis Gazette..."
"Why?"
"We're on the front cover. Do you remember when we went to that event in the park for LuthorCorp a couple months ago?"
"Yes, I do."
"Well, that picture is from that event and your belly is showing a little."
"Oh, this isn't good, Lex..."
"That's exactly right."
"How can this be happening to us?"
"Oh, I know how this can be happening to us. I have a feeling that my father is behind it."
"Great, honey...just what we need right now: Lionel on an ego trip trying to ruin our lives."
"I'll handle it, Clark. Don't worry about it."
"I'll try not, too. Hey, Lex?"
"Yeah, hun?"
"Have I told you how much I love you?"
"Not lately you haven't."
"Well, I love you, Sexy Lexy."
"I love you, too, my Superman."
"Do you know when you're going to be home yet?"
"As soon as I figure out the rest of the paperwork, I'll be there. I'll give you a phone call, when I leave."
"I'll keep my cell phone on."
"Please do..."
Without warning, a rather loud yawn erupted from Clark's body, alerting him to his present condition: 3 months pregnant human time...6 months pregnant Kryptonian time.
"Well, that must've been nice..." Lex retorted after hearing that sound.
"It was..." Clark answered, waddling up the stairs and down the hall to his room. "It is also alerting me to one huge fact."
"And, what's that?"
"Being pregnant makes you tired...very very tired."
He yawned again stridently as he lay down on his queen bed, snuggling close to his body pillow and trying not to fall asleep until he hung up his phone.
"Hun, I'm gonna let you go. I'm gonna take a little nap before you come home, and then, I have a surprise for you." He stated drowsily.
"Any hints on the surprise?" Lex wondered back.
"Nope...none. You'll just have to get the farmhouse as quick as you can."
"I'll be faster than a locomotive. Have a good rest. I love you, babe."
"I love you, too. Bye."
"Bye."
And, with that, Clark closed his phone and fell right asleep, even though one of the twins was still kicking him in the side hard. Clark placed his hand on the spot where he continued to be kicked. He rubbed the area gently, calming down whatever ruckus was going on inside of him. Once the baby quieted down, Clark drifted back to sleep, happy to at least get a couple of hours rest.

At about 5 o'clock that evening, Lex finally returned home to Smallville. He drove up the gravel road to the Kent house and parked his silver Porsche behind Clark's truck. He stepped out and took a deep breath. He had missed the smells in the air there that he couldn't get in Metropolis, and being home, made him feel safe & satisfied. He trotted up to the backdoor of the house and searched for his keys, forgetting that he left his set with Clark. Knocking lightly, Lex waited for the door to be unlocked. Seconds later, Martha opened the big wooden gate, stunned to see her son-in-law there.
"Lex, hi..." She stated to him. "Did you forget your key?"
"Yeah, I left it with Clark." He replied with a smile, as he entered the residence. "So, where is my husband?"
"He's upstairs, still sleeping. I feel so bad for Clark; these twins are certainly tiring him out."
"Just wait until they are born...it'll get worse for the both for us."
"That's for sure."
"I thought I heard someone familiar in here," A masculine voice retorted, entering the kitchen. "How are you, Lex?"
"Good, Jonathan...work sucks but that's a given."
"Oh, very much so..."
"Well, you two, if you don't mind...I'm going to head upstairs to see how Clark is doing."
"No, we don't mind, Lex." Martha answered. "You're welcome here...just remember that."
"I will...thank you."
Lex smiled and strode up the stairs, heading up to see his husband. Reaching his bedroom door, he knocked softly, trying not to awaken his love. He peered around the door and saw a fine-looking sight: his husband lying in bed sleeping peacefully. He stepped inside the room, moving to the empty side of the bed and laid down on it. Lying there, Lex caressed Clark's cheek, allowing the warmth of his skin enveloped the pregnant man's body. Clark sighed loudly, before snuggling closer to the pillow beside him. Lex scooted up next to him, placing his hand on his swollen tummy. The young man yawned again, as he opened his eyes widely. He still looked sleepy as he smiled at Lex.
"Hey, you...you never called." Clark stated to him tiredly. "I would have been up, if you did."
"Baby, I did call...you just didn't answer." Lex responded, still touching his lover's belly.
Clark checked his cell phone and noticed that he had one missed call: 'Lex - Cell.'
"Oh, honey, I'm sorry. I've just been so tired lately."
"Sweetie, don't worry about it; it's natural. How are the babies today?"
"Oh, they are fine. I think they've learned a new ability."
"What do you mean a 'new ability'? Something like heat vision or super-speed?"
"No...nothing like that. They learned each how to cause their mother pain."
"They're kicking already?"
"Yep, and they are born soccer players, no doubt about that."
"Are they kicking now?"
"No, they are still quiet, but when they start to, I'll let you know."
"Painful?"
"When they hit me at the same time, oh yes...other than that, I'd compare it to a slight slug in the shoulder."
"Oooh, that's not fun."
"Next time, we're gettin' you pregnant."
"Honey, I'll be glad to do it."
Clark tried to sit up, but to no avail. Lex got out of bed and helped his husband up & off the queen-size. Clark stretched lightly, groaning from the stiffness in his back. As Lex massaged him, the two men moved downstairs to where Jonathan & Martha were sitting with Shelby.
"Hey, sleepyhead..." Jonathan spoke up with a smile. "You feel any better?"
"No, but I'll be fine." Clark replied as the kicking started again. "Lex...Dad..."
"Yeah, babe?" The bald gent wondered.
"Clark, what's wrong?" Jonathan questioned.
"Give me your hands."
"Why?" Both men asked.
"This is why...."
Clark placed Lex's hand and his father's, where the kicks were hitting, allowing them to both feel the quick thrumps of the twins against the side of his tummy. Jonathan smiled, happy to soon be a grandfather. As for Lex, he was surprised. He had never felt a baby kick, let alone two. He didn't know if he was ready yet for fatherhood, but he did know one thing: he wasn't going to learn how to be a father from his own...he wanted to learn from Jonathan Kent.
